At the beginning of 2011 Google introduced the new Panda update to its algorithm. When Google implemented this new update it devastated and shook up the online world for good. Many websites got hit negatively by the update and other websites were blessed with more traffic and increased rankings.
Now that the dust settled is Google Panda a good thing about things.
Do You Know What Google Panda Is?
Every other month Google always updates its search engine algorithms so that it can provide relevant search results for its users. There are a few factors that Google uses when scoring a website like the number of back links to the site, page loading times, user experience etc. Google are always tweaking and changing these factors continuously.
Over the years Google has been riddled with spam, non relevant and low quality websites. So at the beginning of this year Google introduced a new update to its algorithm to deal with some of these problems, the update was called “Panda”.
What Happened?
When the Panda update was introduced many webmasters saw their websites drop in rankings and others saw their websites disappear from the rankings altogether. Basically content farms, low quality websites, spam sites and any other site that was relevant got wiped out.
Do You Have A Low Quality Website?
No one is quite sure what Google deems as a “low quality website” but we can make an educated guess. Over this year we have seen websites that have duplicate content, less original content, copied or scraped content disappear or rank poorly.
We have also seen the disappearance of many auto blogs to a point where the “.CO” domain extension or TLD has been totally de-indexed because of poor quality websites.
Websites that curn out hundreds of articles and posts per day were also hit in a big way like article directories and various other sites.
Should I Worry About Panda?
It’ a twofold answer! If you have created your website using black hat and other unethical methods like comment spamming, content spinning, content scraping etc it is only a matter of time before your website is either penalised heavily or totally de-indexed.
On the other hand if you have been building your website with unique content and other white hat methods you have nothing to worry about because “Matt Cutts” stated that these types of sites will increase in rankings and authority over time.
How To Make My Website Google “Panda” Friendly?
It’s quite simple because all Google looking for are quality websites with top quality content on it. Now if you can create a website that ticks all these boxes then you will not have a problem. Also right for human viewers and not for search engines.
There are a few other things that you can do to help your website to become more Google friendly one of the things that you should do is focus on your websites on-page SEO. You join the no problem. So I have created a video walk-through of a free plug-in that can help you with this.
It is also a good idea to also focus on your off-page SEO like manual back linking and. I have a list of over 300 high PR websites where you can leave links you can find them here.

Google panda has been good to me in that I’ve been able to rank much more easily than I used to (because before Panda culled a lot of sites the competition was fierce).
I don’t know how long that will last though – at some point the sites that have been hurt will figure it out and then the competition will hot up again

Hi there rose thank you for your comment, as long as you keep doing what you’ve been doing I don’t think you have that much of a problem because the competition got wiped out was probably using black hat techniques and methods and hence they paid for it dearly. Websites get penalised and put into the sandbox you won’t be seeing them any Any time soon.
Excellent analysis of post Panda things to do. I quite agree with your “No one is quite sure what Google deems as a “low quality website” …” statement. Plenty of self proclaimed SEO experts hazard their guesses but I’m not even convinced Matt Cutts fully understands Google algorithms.
When I started online knowing nothing about using keyword tools to find appropriate domain names, tools to pick niches, or anything else I instinctively chose the health and relationships markets and for domains did my own think tanking list of keywords. Basically I looked for word strings I thought searchers might use (eg: will my ex come back to me) and that could easily fit into a readable sentence in articles. Then checked their availability at godaddy and bought the best I could get. My original thinking was to build large sites over time that promoted various products within each niche. A short time later I found many “experts” promoting the idea of one thin 3-5 page site per product and wondered if in my naivety I’d gone down the wrong track. Quite recently I found one creator of “teach me affiliate marketing” products actually stating authority sites were better than those thin sites so that was reassuring.
As for thin spammy sites there are still no shortage of these on page#1 for some search terms. Classic example being review sites, particularly in the IM niche. Take any IM product and search for reviews. Many of the page#1 results will be sites that tell you in 50 words “I haven’t done a review yet but bookmark me and come back cos one day I might” which to my mind hardly meets the Google “quality content” concept so I think their algorithms have some way to go yet. Obviously spiders can’t read like humans so perhaps things like “bounce rates” should be a greater factor in their site assessments.
I look forward to seeing more posts on this topic and perhaps I’ve just given you food for one.

“I’m not even convinced Matt Cutts fully understands Google algorithms.” Ha ha ha I love that statement.
oh yes there are still plenty of those one-page review sites online but the reason why their at number one is because those types of Product review sites have a shelflife. So after the product has been launched no one else will be writing any fresh reviews about the product so hence the most relevant review says at number one.
So for you to get to number one for that review all you would have to do is write a one-page review and you will probably go to the one within a few days because your content is fresh.
If you really want to win with review You have to create a massive review site where you review products on that one site only hence you always have fresh content ” which Google loves” because you will be reviewing new products every other day.
But with the Google Panda update you will no longer see those seen websites at number one on the first page for competitive keywords. You only see authority site there.
I used to have a few things sites myself that used to rank but it took too much time for me to maintain so I decided to only concentrate on free websites and no more.
In my opinion the Google panda is good enough. it is not only the safeness but also the quality of it! However, it can be depended on other people opinion if the Google panda is good or not!
